I'm Moving To Atlanta! :)

I'm moving to Atlanta!!

I hinted at it a couple of posts back, but now I'm actually ready to tell the rest of the world. I'm moving to Atlanta on the 31st of this month! :) I was supposed to move in June, but because of a few things that happened a couple weeks ago, I was forced to make a decision now. If I stayed, I probably wouldn't be able to find a place to live for the price I'll be paying now. And since I'm not exactly loaded (hello, I graduate in May!), that makes moving a lot more difficult.

So....I decided! After freaking out and weighing the pros and cons, I finally made a decision.

Which gives me a total of 10 days to pack everything and move my life to another state. I've had a few days already, but not many. And those were mainly filled with making sure it would actually work out. Because I still can't believe that it is. My landlord let me out of my lease early, my parents didn't kill me, and I can take all of my last semester classes online and be perfectly fine to still graduate with honors.

It's like fate. It's like God is telling me that I should go. And I know that I could be looking too far into this, but everything just fell into place so perfectly. The only thing I wish I could change is the fact that Stephen has to stay here for another year and a half. He's in nursing school and can't exactly just up and leave with me. Thankfully, I'll only be 4 and a half hours away so I'll be back and forth a lot...but I will miss him terribly. For all of you military wives/girlfriends and other women who have gone through this same situation, I feel for you. And could also use some encouragement from someone who knows what it's like, because I already miss him and I'm not even gone yet.

But enough sappy. I'm also so extremely excited to be going! Atlanta will have so many more opportunities for me - with blogging and with work. I graduate in May and I'll be looking for "big girl" jobs immediately once I move in and get settled. I'll be looking in publishing, editing, or social media marketing (just in case anyone knows of anything!). Copy editing is my dream, but anything in those areas would be fantastic. If any of you live in or around Atlanta, I'd love to schedule a meet up as well! I'm just so elated to be starting a new chapter of my life and I want to take full advantage of all the opportunities that I'll have.

I'll have a couple more posts while I'm in Mississippi, but soon I'll be blogging from Atlanta. :) And I couldn't be more excited (and terrified).

If you've ever moved to a new place before while basically starting over (no job, basically no friends, and no idea what to do), I'd love to hear about it in the comments!

Happy Thursday, everyone. :)

  2. We've already chatted about this but YAY!!! And like I told you, I've been there! You will love Atlanta and it's not too hard to make friends. People are very friendly here. I definitely suggest reaching out to people you know through blogging or other hobbies and meet up for coffee. We will obvs be doing that too. You should check out Creative Loafing (http://clatl.com/) and TheUrbanRealist (http://theurbanrealist.com/) for writing gigs. TUR doesn't pay but she sends her writers to shows & events and cool stuff like that! Can't wait to have you here!!!

  3. Congratulations!!! This is so exciting! Sometimes I feel like it's not that the new place brings us good/new things (although that can also be the case) but that when we begin a new adventure, it changes us from the inside out - in the best way, often times encouraging us to try new things that bring such joy. (Goodness, I that came out a jumbled mess, I hope it made sense)

  7. How exciting for your! You will love Atlanta. The people in the South are so friendly. When we retired we moved from Ohio to South Carolina with nothing but what we could fit in our crossover SUV. Haven't regretted it for a minute!

  9. How exciting! For many years I was the travelling spouse (business), so 1-1/2 years for you is really not bad. Just make sure to try touch base with Stephen every night before you go to sleep - don't let a single day go by!

  12. Moving like you are is always a bit terrifying. I remember when I moved from my little hometown to a major city with no real solid plans. I just had a girlfriend's sister to stay with until I found a job. It was very scary but in the end, it was the best thing I could have done. Plus, I met my hubby in that big city :-)

  15. That's so exciting!! I love Atlanta, it's one of my favorite places to visit and I have so many friends/family there! Good luck on your new adventures, long distance sucks (I've been doing it for a few years now), but I firmly believe that it's worth the struggle and that we'll see the benefits of it once our long distance finally comes to a close (hopefully this December!) Can't wait to see what new adventures await!
