Awhile ago, I was contacted about this book and given the opportunity to read it for myself. This book review has been waiting to be published for a couple of weeks now, but I just couldn't decide exactly what I wanted to say.
I really liked this book.
It's not a masterpiece by any means, but it throws you right into the storyline. And for a first time writer at fifteen years old, it is amazing.
There are the Whites and there are the Reds. The Whites are the "unfeelings" and the Reds are the "normal" ones. The Whites are trying to force everyone to become as they are while being led by The Pure One. A battle takes place in both the hearts and the bodies of everyone involved. And aside from all of that, there are creatures called Trigons and a little girl that everyone can't help but love.
I realize that the description seems a bit vague, but I really can't say much more without revealing important things. The novel is almost a novella at 160 pages, and though deep characterization can't be written for so many characters in such a short amount of space, the characters have enough depth to them that the reader feels for them.
My favorite character was definitely Nalin. He's adorably witty.
And the ending is phenomenal. I love it. Not just how it ended the story, but the scene itself.
So go check out this new author! Anna Caltabiano is sure to write plenty of great novels in the coming years if she's already this good with a tale at 15. And it's a fast read, so it won't take up much of your time.
