Junior Year: Round Two.

I wasn't kidding when I said that this semester was going to be tough. However, I don't think even I understood the weight of my own words. After this first week of class, I'm not really sure where I stand with everything and I'm a little overwhelmed, not gonna lie. The books in the photo above are only the books that I have to read for two of my classes. And though my other classes don't involve such heavy reading, I'm definitely not taking any easy courses. Well, aside from Wine Appreciation.

But the painting behind it [that was made by a girl I absolutely adore] is one that I keep standing in my room by my television. I don't really have anywhere on the wall that I want to hang it, but the words painted on it are some of the most inspiring I could possibly have to look at every day. It's from my favorite book, Looking for Alaska. A lot of my favorite quotes come from that book.

Among others:

To lose balance sometimes for love is part of living a balanced life. // Eat, Pray Love

So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I am still trying to figure out how that could be. // Perks of Being a Wallflower

So many versions of just one memory, and yet none of them were right or wrong. Instead, they were all pieces. Only when fitted together, edge to edge, could they even begin to tell the whole story. // Just Listen

You can smile when your heart is breaking because you're a woman. // The Other Boleyn Girl

If it means something, take it to heart. If it means nothing, it's nothing. Let it go. // The Other Boleyn Girl

Suffering has been stronger than all other teaching, and has taught me to understand what your heart used to be. I have been bent and broken, but - I hope - into a better shape. // Great Expectations

Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it. // Divergent

There is something about words. In expert hands, manipulated deftly, they take you prisoner . Wind themselves around your limbs like spider silk, and when you are so enthralled you cannot move, they pierce your skin, enter your blood, numb your thoughts. Inside you they work their magic. // The Thirteenth Tale

I used to dream about escaping my ordinary life, but my life was never ordinary. I had simply failed to notice how extraordinary it was. // Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Behind every exquisite thing that existed, there was something tragic. // The Picture of Dorian Gray

You can love someone so much, but you can never love people as much as you can miss them. // Looking for Alaska

I don't know if it's just because I'm an English major and read a LOT of books on a regular basis, but quotes and song lyrics are what inspire me. They can lift me up to a soaring happiness as well as drag me so far down into a temporary depression that I don't want to move for three days. I do my best to focus on the good instead of the bad, but sometimes we all need a day to cry. And that's when I pick up books like Go Ask Alice. Because even when you come across something or someone that is incredibly sad, at least it reminds you of the blessings that you have in your own life. And in my life, I have many.

Good luck with your semesters, lovelies.

  4. Good luck with your semester! It's funny, I got excited to see your picture of all the books, because I love to read, but it's definitely different when it's for school and you're on a schedule. I love your quote choices. It's been a while since I read it, but I remember enjoying The Thirteenth Tale. Have you ever read Kate Morton? So so good.

  5. Wow, those are a lot of textbooks for two classes! But it's good to have a quote or mantra to look to throughout the semester to keep you grounded. Good luck with everything [:

  6. Great quotes! Quotes really inspire me too - I love that such a short sentence can be so powerful. Wow, you really do have a lot of reading this semester! Are you really taking a wine class? I took one in college and it was amazing!!

  8. Such fun quotes! I feel your pain about your semester... well I have felt your pain. Teachers that require that much reading are pretty much saying that they don't want you to have a life outside of school. haha! Crazy people! (:

  9. Oh wow. That's crazy that that's only books for two classes! Holy cow, that's a lot! But you can do it! It'll be hard, but you only have to do it for a few months, and then done! For summer at least. Junior year was definitely my hardest year though. I love all of the quotes you shared. I'm like you and song lyrics and book quotes really speak to me, and I think we have similar taste in books! I need to read Looking for Alaska ASAP because you keep saying awesome things about it!

  10. Those are a lot of books, but I see a few books there that are supposed to be good reads. I need to read John Green books since everyone is raving about them (great quotes btw). I want to know what's up with the hype! And hang in there, you'll get through it!
